The port city was named in honor of the Russian Tsarina Maria – the wife of Alexander II. The small, “toy” Mariehamn has an interesting history and interesting sights. You will take a walk around the city, see the old wooden houses of Mariehamn, the Town Hall, the building of the city school in the Art Nouveau style, the Lutheran church, designed by Lars Sonka, a monument to the merchant Sitkov, a pedestrian shopping street of the city. You will visit the “Sea Quarter”, where wooden ships are still being built, craft workshops work, and there is a copy of the lighthouse, etc.
Trip to Kastelholm Castle and the Bomarsund Fortress – 450 € (1-3 people).

The medieval history of Åland will be presented at Castelholm Castle. It was first mentioned in the annals of 1388, but the exact date of its foundation is still unknown. This grandiose building was an important administrative center on the Åland Islands, as well as the residence of the Swedish king during the hunt.
Bomarsund Fortress
The events of the 19th century related to the Crimean War clearly represent the remains of the Russian fortress of Bomarsund and the former settlement, under its walls. You will rise to the observation deck, which overlooks the Devil’s Mountain, the picturesque Gulf of Lumparen and the enchanting Varjata Fjord
